Valley provides surgeons and their patients with clinically excellent and compassionate anesthesia care in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and medical offices throughout the greater Phoenix area. Valley is a comprehensive anesthesiology group of more than 200 specialty-trained, board-certified physicians. Several members hold board certifications in pediatrics and internal medicine, as well as anesthesia subspecialty fellowship training in critical care and pain management. Additionally, many Valley members are specialty-trained in the areas of pediatric, cardiac, and neurosurgical anesthesia.
Valley is pleased to offer peri-operative anesthesia services to surgeons and dentists in the convenience of the office setting. Valley's office-based anesthesia team, Valley Mobile Services, is one of the few office-based anesthesia providers accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
Additionally, Valley collaborates with facilities, medical groups, dental groups and other organizations to assist them with management services and consulting services.
Anesthesia Services
There are four main types of anesthesia: local, regional, general and monitored anesthesia care (MAC). Each category has many forms and indications.
With local anesthesia, the anesthetic drug is usually injected into the tissue to numb just the specific location of the body; this type of anesthesia is reserved for minor surgery.
With regional anesthesia, the anesthesiologist makes an injection near a cluster of nerves to numb the area of the body that requires surgery. The patient may remain awake, or be given a sedative; regional anesthesia can also be combined with general anesthesia. In all cases, the patient does not see or feel the actual surgery taking place. There are several kinds of regional anesthesia; the two most common forms of regional anesthesia are spinal anesthesia and epidural anesthesia.
With general anesthesia, the patient is unconscious and has no awareness or other sensations. There are a number of general anesthetic drugs - some are gases or vapors inhaled through a breathing mask or tube. Others are medications introduced through a vein.
As with general anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care, or MAC, uses sedatives and other agents, but the dosage is low enough that patients remain responsive and breathe without assistance. MAC is often used to supplement local and regional anesthesia, particularly during simple procedures and minor surgery.
